WTN: Green…well green bottle anyway

by David M. Bueker » Fri Mar 14, 2025 4:02 pm

  • 2015 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (3/13/2025)
Opened to raise a glass to Rudi Wiest, whose Cellars International imported the wine. From 375ml it was open from first pour, which was a big relief after my prior bottle several years ago was shut down hard. Lots of fresh fruit, and there’s a hint of creaminess to the texture, so it’s maturing if slowly. Surprising brightness, as 2015 always had some meat on its bones, so again age is conveying benefits. I will check in again soon, as this seems like it’s entering a good drinking window.

Very helpful, thanks. I seem to have a bunch of Prüm ‘15s I’ve barely touched.
cheers, Patchen

I barely touch any of my Prüm. I need to drink more of it.

2015 is an interesting vintage. I can't say I bought enough to have any real comprehensive knowledge. It was obviously ripe but I guess in retrospect (after some of the crazy recent vintages), it often does have more brightness and lift than the heavier recent vintages. And I haven't been upset at drinking 2015 dry wines over the past years.

I think I have a few 2015 Heymann-Löwenstein GGs left. Probably won't wait forever.

For various reasons I have a bit of a hole in my German collection from. 2013-2018, except for a decant stash of 2015, almost half of which is Prüm!

Same. I wasn't impressed with a lot of what I tasted at the Theise or Wiest DI tastings for the 13 and 14 vintages (13 had acids that seemed out of balance, 14 had fruit that didn't really taste clean/clear most of the time). 16/17 I didn't taste as broadly, but the wines were decent without being particularly interesting. 15 on the other hand - loved it, bought broadly/deep, only wish I'd bought more Kabinett. (Nearly all my Prüm and Schaefer are Spätlese and Auslese.)
