2021 McManis Family Vineyards Petite Sirah (California, Lodi)
I doubted I'd be able to take part in this month's tasting theme, but when I plucked this bottle that I'd had for a couple of years in my cellar I found the front label boasted 'Certified Sustainable' and the back label that it was 'Green'.
Well, it was almost black in colour, with a silky texture and a depth of taste that incorporated damsons, dark chocolate and toffee.
I went to the website to find which organisation had provided the certification. It said the vineyards and winery were 'California Certified Sustainable' and that in 2016 they were awarded the 'California Green Medal Award for Sustainable Winegrowing in Business'.(so I suppose that's the State of California) and they're also Certified Green by Lodi Rules.
I also looked at the technical sheet for the wine. Unfortunately they don't have one for the vintage, only a general on which says the wine is a blend of 76% Petite Sirah with 24% Tannat
