- 2011 Edmunds St. John Syrah Fenaughty - USA, California, Sierra Foothills, El Dorado County (3/11/2025)
One of the notable things about this wine is how smoky and meaty it is. Pouring a glass last night I was again in front of a wood fire with meat grilling, and fat cracking in the flames. It was striking how intense the aromas were. There was a lot more leathery/sweaty in the background of this bottle, so real aged character is starting to take over, but there’s likely still a few years to go. Structure is in check, so no worries about it drying out any time soon.

I hope it was good. I've often been a bit puzzled by the "Fenaughty" without any Wylie or Barsotti in them.

It was indeed very good, just rather smoky dominant as it always has been.
