Cracked last night:
1. Vigneti Massa Piccolo Derthona Colli Tortonesi Vino Bianco (12.5%; Timorasso; PortoVino/Buffalo) Massa/Monleale 2022: Med.dark gold color; very fragrant/perfumed quite floral/gardenias/pear blossom classic Timo almost R-like light mineral/chalky beautiful aromatic nose; fairly tart/tangy very floral/Timo/gardenias/pear blossom quite dry but not austere light chalky/mineral somewhat light bodied lovely R-like flavor; very long/lingering finish that mimics flavor; a very fragrant/perfumed classic expression of Timo at a very fair price. $25.50 (KK)

More timogrit from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Timorasso is my favorite white grape from the Piemonte. It has beautiful aromatics that even surpass Arneis, almost R-like in character. Walter Massa is the one who pretty much single-handedly brought Timo back from near extinction. Piccolo is a blend of three vnyds of young vines that won't make it into his higher level Timos. He also makes a Barbera that is quite outstanding.

Thanks, Tom. Do you know what “Derthona” means? It’s on Vietti’s Timorasso too, so I guess it’s not a trademarked brand. Is it a vineyard or site name? Part of the DOC name? I can’t quite figure it out.
cheers, Patchen

Derthona refers to a village/region in the Alto Piemonte. Where much of the Timo is grown.

Derthona is the ancient roman name of Tortona, the main village of that part of southern Piemonte.
