Dom. de Couron Viognier A C: CdR (14%; MeBaD; ChloeWines/Seattle) Jean-Luc et Marie-Lise Dorthe/St.Marcel/d'Ardeche 2023: Light gold color; lovely fragrant pear/Viog/floral/carnations slight mineral/chalky quite lovely nose; lightly tart/metallic rather Viog/floral/carnations/pear/spicy light mineral/chalky some spicy/poached pears lovely flavor; very long pear/Viog finish that tracks flavor; a really lovely perfumed Viog at a great price. $15.00 (SFW&S)

Dom.Carrel & Senger Jardine d'Altitude AC: Van de Savoie Rose (12.5%; 80% Gamay/20% Mondeuse; Vintage Imprts/Denver) Jongieux/Savoie 2023: Light rose/cranberry color; fairly fragrant Gamay/grapey/cherry light earthy nose that speaks mostly of Gamay; fairly tart/tangy bit austere strong grapey/Gamay bit earthy rather pretty flavor w/ light tannins; doesn't speak much of Mondeuse but mostly of simple Gamay; a quite pleasant rose but just that. $13.00 (SFW&S)

Solminer GrunerVeltliner DeLandaVnyd/LosOlivosDist (12%; 67 cs; Demeter certified) 2023: Med.gold/some browning quite hazy color; strong phenolic/skin-contact/resiny/some cidery quite dusty/earthy very slight GV/white pepper not very attractive nose; quite tart/tangy rather tannic quite phenolic/resinous/cidery flavor w/ very little fruit; very long strong phenolic/tannic finish that mimics flavor; a quite unattractive austere skin-contact GV that needs age. $37.00

1. The Viognier was very impressive for the $$'s. Not a profound Viog of the level of Condrieu, but a steal at that price.
The Solminer was a pretty unattractive expression of GV. Dominated by the phenolic/skin-contact character now. But I suspect w/ 5-8 yrs of age, it might evolve into something pretty interesting. Or perhaps not.
The next morning, the GV fruit had started to poke thru the phenolic character, but still was not very attractive.
