- 2004 Château Léoville Las Cases - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien (2/23/2025)
Typically for the vintage, this is not a blockbuster, but rather a measured, balanced Bordeaux that is slowly making its way to maturity. There's a mouthwatering acidity present in the wine that gives some lift to the dark red fruit, and the tannins are appropriately moderate. Overall it presents as a rather "basic" Bordeaux (recently tasted '04 Pontet Canet and Leoville Barton are both showing better at present), but there's good mid-palate weight, so time may bring out more complexity/interest. With one bottle left I will take a chance and lay it down for several years to see what happens.
