2002 Château Montus Madiran Cuvée Prestige - having tried a 1994 Madiran recently with disappointing results I thought I'd open a younger one and it all turned out well. Very dark colour, excellent dark berry and spice nose, and hefty but not overly tannic lengthy finish. Way better than the 94 Brumont I tried earlier!

Madirans are something I just have never warmed up to. Never owned any, and the very few I've tasted never made me want to own any. Did you bring those back from your trips to Europe? Down here, even if one wanted to purchase one locally it would be hell to find one.

They aren't that well known, but you can find them. I have a mixed case and a half of them. The only one currently available here is

https://www.bcliquorstores.com/product/485373

I may pick up a couple of bottles just so I can try them in another half decade or so.

Haven't looked myself, but I look at wine all the time and never see them. Only tannats that occasionally show up are Uruguayan.

2016 Château Bouscasse a regular downtown!
Mainly Tannat (60%) with the rest Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Harmony and power, a delicate fruitiness with aromas of blackberries and well-integrated tannins, full-bodied on the palate. Lovely streak of hay and iron with nice minerality ending on a spicy note.

CT notes very varied

Jenise,
Tannat is my favorite grape to pair with cassoulet for a mid-winter feast. In addition to Madiran, there's also Irouleguy -- though those wines can have Cab Franc and Cab S in them as well (I still laugh at the idea of Cab S being used to soften a blend).

I've had them! But so few and so far apart, somehow I never caught the bug. The descriptions by Bob P and Bill's link sound very tantalizing. Any time you mention spice and red wine, you generally have my attention. It's such a hearty wine, the match with cassoulet makes tons of sense. I'll make a point of buying one sometime soon just to refresh.

Love Madiran with cassoulet.
I enjoyed a lot of Montus Prestiges from 90s (90, 95, 96) but haven't had in a while. I know some decry as international, but I never found them glossy. CT says I still have one '95, but think it's a phantom.
