WTN: Wines we love (Doisy-Daëne)

by John S » Wed Feb 19, 2025 5:50 pm

I love sauternes and dessert wines of all kinds, but I very rarely drink them anymore. I don't really know why that is. I pulled this 2017 Château Doisy-Daëne out on Valentines Day for my wife who also loves dessert wines, and it was a big hit.

Hazy notes from a 375ml bottle. Lovely 100% semillon sauternes. Drinking well now, with a classic nose and medium bodied, unctuous texture with orange, tobacco and tropical fruits. Nice long finish. Will last a while of course, but glad to have tried it now (A-/A).

I love Sauternes/Barsac as well, though my wife does not. She prefers Eiswein.

Doisy-Daene was the first Sauternes I fell in love with! It was at a tasting of many, including big-hitter names like Rieussec, and as I recall points-wise the lowest scorer of the bunch, but the reasons for that were exactly what I liked about it.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
