WTN: Alsace pink bubbly, Wachau white

Up to Tarrytown for dinner with friends- smoked mussels , followed by Romanian cabbage rolls with polenta with feta, soft boiled egg, and sour cream. Salad on the side.

2019 Charles Frey Cremant d’Alsace Rose
Not sure I’ve ever seen a rose cremant d’Alsace before (but CT shows a lot of them). Strawberries, pink grapefruit, good acids though a bit short on finish. Some anise/fennel pollen character. The rather gentle mousse seems to fade with bottle being open a not especially lengthy period. B/B-

2007 Rudi Pichler Wosendorfer Kirchweg Riesling Smaragd
This has a bit more zip than it’s Steinrigl brother consumed Sunday, bright peach flavors with lemongrass and caraway seed. It’s a little weighty on the palate, but still quite enjoyable. B+/B

No wine Tuesday with an Ottolenghi “tray bake” (sheetpan dinner) with ras al hanout chicken, chickpeas, and peppers.

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

I've always been impressed with Pierre Sparr Crément d'Alsace Rosé [pinot noir] which shows up periodically here in Ontario for ~$CDN19.00. Their white bubbly [80% pinot blanc & 20% auxerrois] is pretty good, too, but I think the rosé is better.

My parents used to drink boatloads of a rosé Cremant d’Alsace. At some point I will remember the name.
