A short primer on Blaufränkisch

Blaufränkisch is one of my favourite red vinifera varieties, especially in its Austrian and Hungarian (known there as Kékfrankos) iterations. I love its high acid and Syrah-resembling peppery spice. I pretty much pounce on the wines whenever I see them at Vintages.

If you can ever get your hands on a Lemberger from Fox Run (Finger Lakes) try it.

They blend about 20% Cabernet Franc--stellar achievement with a spicy black pepper spine.

Yup - I tried it at NiagaraCool in '05. Amazing wine! Wish we had something like that in Ontario as well.
