Last night I served the following with a Chinese-inspired dinner:
2022 Betz Family Rosé Caché Columbia Valley Red Rhone Blend
Pale golden pink. Not as RS-y as a bottle last summer, and flavors are a bit more focused while still being plump and round--would bet it's all syrah or very close to it. Quite enjoyable but would need more acidity to achieve the Provencal comparison they seek.
2020 Orofino Vineyards Riesling Wild Ferment Old Vines Similkameen Valley
Ready but still evolving. Complex, heady nose with sweet entry dries out toward the finish. One of BC's most exemplary riesling producers, IMO.
2002 Peter Lehmann Clancy's Barossa Valley Shiraz Blend, Syrah
I am honored to be the one, nine years since the last disappointed CT TN on this, to announce: YOU BUFFOONS DRANK THIS TOO SOON! Decanted an hour before dinner for O2 (no sediment), this garnet-colored wine showed only minor age and in fact didn't at all seem 23 years old--few American syrans could go this kind of distance. Plush strawberry and black cherry fruit with perfect shiraz sweetness and notes of warm minerality and old leather armchair. A delight.
