WTN: Wines we love - Roederer Warrior

  • NV Louis Roederer Champagne Collection 242 - France, Champagne (2/1/2025)
Why I don’t drink Roederer more often is a complete mystery. I love their NV, regardless of what they call it, and their vintage wines are excellent, and really good value (Cristal excepted) in the overheated Champagne market.

Anyway, this bottle was delicious - deeper/darker than a lot of Champagnes we regularly drink, but that just made it feel more substantial. It had a bit of brooding character, yet no lack of freshness. Laura loved it, giving it the coveted “this doesn’t suck” rating. Excellent pairing with our aged Gouda Gougeres.

How do you feel about the California Roederers? I realize--bottom line, they're not champagne and only champagne is champagne--but you've been known to dabble a bit.

I like them, especially the l’Ermitage. The basic Roederer Estate NV is a touch sweet for my current palate, but still a good deal.

I've always liked the l'Ermitage, too. In fact I just picked up a few '19s for the cellar (yes I'm technically not buying more wine but I've needed to beef up the bubble department).
