Wine Focus February 2025 - Wines you love the most (OTBN)

by David M. Bueker » Fri Jan 31, 2025 9:18 pm

February is of course the month for Valentine’s Day- all that love stuff, with chocolates and overpriced roses.

It’s also a month with Open that Bottle Night, the one evening dedicated to opening up that bottle of wine that is just too special.

So we’re going to do a bit of a mashup. What wines do you love the most? Open some. Tell us why you love them so much. If they are truly special “open that bottle” types so much the better, but they don't have to be.

What’s your vinous love?

You have really got me thinking there David. Its like trying to decide if I would listen to Solti conducting the Chicago SO or Karajan with the Vienna Phil!

Ha!

Solti with Chicago for Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, but Karajan with the BPO for Beethoven!

Here are a couple of wines that I really love. Neither is easy to find here in Michigan, so I have to expend some effort to have them shipped to me. When I drink them I get feelings of bliss! 1) Nusserhof reds (Lagrein, Elda, Teroldego), 2) Massimo Clerico (Spanna, Lessona). Not all of my wine-loving friends appreciate them as I do.

Interesting selections. Kind of off beat, which gives me an idea!

We visited Nesserhof when in Bolzano several years ago. It's a small oasis in the middle of the industrial part of the city. The Nesserhofs were very hospitable. We went there to get a white wine, whose name I don't recall, which they were about the only ones still making in Alto Adige.

Dan! Haven't seen you here in awhile, glad you dropped in. Chenin Blancs were your passion IIRC, are they still?
