After 10 days of a diet with no wine, it was nice to get back!

Flank steak in a lime/chipotle marinade, trumpet mushrooms, rice, leftover kale
2013 Domaine du Collier Saumur La Charpentrie (rouge)
Maybe it was the 10 days of abstinence but I loved this- fragrant, elegant, but with a core of power. Strawberries, strawberry leaves, a little campfire on the nose, bright raspberry fruit with a citrus twist. Really in a good place.

Herbed roast chicken, carrots, Chinese broccoli with beech mushrooms
2019 Envinate Benje (blanco)
Pit fruits, saline, herbs, earthy. Good acids, good length, maybe not quite the weight of the Taganan bottling but nice. B+

Grey sole with mustard/herb, barley, tomato/basil salad, puntarelle
2015 Marcato "Monte Tenda" Soave Classico
I coulda had a Pieropan! This has a sweet edge to it, a touch flabby, nectarine and a little grass. Boring. C+/B-

Spaghetti Bolognese and kale salad
1999 La Fornace Brunello di Montalcino
There’s some black cherry, dried cherry and leather, but also an underlying ashtray note. Medium bodied, comes across as a little hot, shoulda drunk 10 years ago (but doubt ever really my style). B-/C+

Monday another dry day, with tuna steaks, spinach gomaae, rice

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

The first wine back after a break is always special.

Indeed. And that Collier Charpentrie is no slouch of a wine.

I see what abstinence has done for/to you, Dale: you didn't assign a letter grade for the Collier

Whoa! I wrote A- in my tasting notes, and pasted notes. Unsure how that disappeared!

Not had a Collier red, but a buddy recently claimed it is a good as Rougeard at about 1/3 the price. My curiosity is definitely piqued.
