WTN: WindGap Syrah Nellessen '13....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Jan 14, 2025 3:06 pm

Cracked this wine last night for dinner:
1. WindGap Syrah NellessenVnyd/SonomaCoast/SonomaCnty (11.9%; 10 brls/231 cs; www.WindGapWines.com) PaxMahle/Sebastapol 2013: Dark color w/ some bricking; very strong c-c/black pepper blueberry/blackberry/Syrah rather Rhonish/smokey/roasted/pungent strong smokey/toasty/oak beautiful complex nose; rather tart/tangy/acidic strong Rhonish/roasted/smoked meats c-c/black pepper strong toasty/charred/oak some blueberry/blackberry/Syrah bit dusty/OV/earthy rather complex flavor w/ some chewey tannins; very long/lingering very Rhonish finish that follows the flavor; a lovely very Rhonish/c-c/Syrah that can still use a few yrs but the tannins are not going to dissipate much. $40.00

More windlkrit from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Nellessen is one of several vnyds in the PetalumaGap Pax takes his Syrah. Despite the anemic ripeness level, it showed plenty of richness & ripeness w/ a fairly acidic edge. I last tasted this almost 3 yrs ago & it is changing at a glacial pace. Best to drink up as the tannins will only become more predominate.

Interesting. Nellessen was always my favorite (along with Majik) of his Syrah sites. I still have some 2012 and 2015.
