Shared these two Rieslings w/ Susan this weekend:
1. Joh.Jos.Christoffel Erben Riesling Spatlese Erdener Treppchen/Mosel (8.5%; A.P.Nr.2 602 041007 12; GA) Robert Eymael/Christoffel Erben/Urzig/Mosel 2011: Med.gold color; very strong R/mango/bit pineapple quite mineral/flinty some Mosel valve oil/petrol light botrytis rather rich lovely some complex nose; lightly tart/metallic rather sweet (2%-4% r.s.?) strong R/pineapple/mango light botrytis/peachy some savory/saline/Mosel valve oil/petrol lovely ripe Spatlese flavor;very long/lingering finish that tracks flavor; quite a lovely classic Mosel Spatlese that should go another 10-15 yrs; a bit too sweet for our apps but a lovely Spatlese.

Lucien Albrecht Riesling AC: Alsace Reserve (12%; www.Lucien-Albrecht.com; FoleyFamily Artisian Imprts/SantaRosa 2021: Med.gold color; strong R/floral mineral/stony/earthy rather old-timey Alsatian R nose; strong floral/R rather mineral/stony/earthy bit flinty somewhat austere totally dry bit rich/clean/savory finish that mimics flavor; quite an attractive old-timey Alsace R that should be much more interesting in 2-5 yrs; nothing profound but a good/solid old-timey Alsace R like the ones we'd buy for $3-$5 back in the '70's; very good price at $20.00 (SFW&S)

1. The Spatlese was a very good example of a Mosel R and should develop even further. We had it w/ some apps & it was a little too sweet for them, even the bacon-wrapped candied dates.
