Dave McIntyre/WashPost Retires

by TomHill » Mon Jan 06, 2025 1:20 pm

After 16 yrs of writing the wine column for the WashPost, Dave McIntyre announces his retirement:
[McIntyreRetires](https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/202 ... -farewell/).

I thought it was a particularly well-written retirement notice. One point really touches home:

Wine is connection. The liquid in our glass is not just fermented grape juice, it’s a time capsule of a vintage, linking us to the place where those grapes were grown and a vigneron crafted them into an elixir that can last for years. Wine carries history and culture. Most of all, it connects us to those with whom we share it.

That, to me says it all about what makes wine so special to many of us. The "connection" thing. You don't see it in milk or DrPepper, maybe a bit in craft beer, but the connections I've made over the yrs with so many people makes wine so unique.

Anyway, worth a read.
