More bliddlewerk from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I have followed Craig Jaffurs wines from (before) the very start, when he was making them up in the CentralCoast Wine Coop. Bob Senn, proprietor of the wine shop in LosOlivos, knowing my fondness for Calif Rhones, admonished that I must meet this Craig Jaffurs who was focusing on Calif Rhones. So on the next trip out to SantaBarbara, we made arrangements to meet up w/ Craig on the front porch of Bob's shop.It was a cold & drizzly day. Larry Archibald joined me. Craig had gone up to the Coop in SantaMaria and gathered a sample of his Viognier & Syrah, all he was making at that time. He poured them from these Gerber baby food jars that contained his samples. I really liked the wines but they didn't blow me away. Maybe because they still had a taint of Gerbers Strained Peas in them?? But what I was most struck by was Craig's passion for making Rhone wines in Calif. It was the start of a long & beautiful relationship.
Some 5-6 yrs ago, Craig sold the Jaffurs Wnry to Dan Green, a producer up in Lompoc who specialized in Pinot & Chard. Craig felt Dan was the ideal person to take on the Jaffurs brand he'd built up over the yrs. To my taste, Dan has done a very good job of maintaining the Jaffurs quality & style. Jaffurs is in good hands.
