Tried this new arrival from Matthew on Monday w/ friends:
1. Forlorn-Hope Die Nazhzugler LateHrvst WW MokelumneGlenVnyd/Lodi (14.36; Bacchus/Riesling/Rieslaner/Kerner; Frmt: 2 yrs; 25 cs) MatthewRorick/Murphys/Calaveras 2013: Deep golden/bronze bit browm some hazy color; bit alcoholic/volatile rather grapey/raisened/pruney/late hrvesty slight earthy/dusty little fruit not very interesting nose; soft/fat quite sweet rather raisened/pruney/late hrvesty/overripe nbit earthy/dusty very slight oxidizative flavor; long overripe/grapey/raisened finish that tracks flavor; just a very overripe/raisened/pruney late hrvst white that's not very interesting. $45.00/hlf

More jipplefrit from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. This was Matthew's first stab at a dessert wine. He makes a GemischterSatz from the German varieties in this vnyd. There were some unsold left well after harvest, so he & his crew picked all the grapes they could. The ferment lasted over two yrs & stopped naturally. It was then put to barrel for several yrs.
The wine is definitely a sweet dessert wine. But it is dominated by the overripe/raisened/pruney character and very much lacking in interest. Whether it will develop into anything interesting with age is anybody's guess.

When I saw Forlorn Hope you had me channeling the Sharpe novels about the Napoleonic war(s) as I had never heard of this winery, but when I took a look I liked what I saw. We have a couple of similar wineries here in BC with similar goals.

Have to respect people that make mondeuse rose , savagnin and pineau d'aunis.....
