Betsy’s cooking wine was the 2021 St. Francis Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma). Sweet blackberry and blueberry, touch of vanilla, soft though at least not gloppy. Plenty of fruit to contribute to brisket. C+

A Hanukkah dinner with Betsy’s sister and family (and nephew’s girlfriend).

Boquerones, smoked salmon, and gravlax
NV Grongnet Blanc des Blancs Champagne
Green apple, pear, a chalky edge to finish. A bit sweet but with countering acidity. B

Brisket with a horseradish gremolata , latkes with all the toppings, salad
2000 Ch. Lagrange (St Julien)
Young but open, some tannic structure remaining, rich cassis fruit with a hint of vanilla and some St. Julien tobacco. Moderate acids, long fruity finish, this is a Bordeaux that could appeal to Cali fans yet retain typicity. B+

Fun night with good people

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Glad your Lagrange was sound. My bottle a few weeks ago was the most brutally corked wine I have opened in a very long time.
