1990 Ch. Chauvin - this St. Emilion Grand Cru was something I was looking at in a general review of my right bank wines. Quite a few of them do not age as well, long term as left bank as they are usually merlot based with a bit of cab franc as opposed to principally cab sauv. Checked CT on the wine and a review in 2007 found it nearing end of life. I was pleased to find that mine had fared better - bricking edges but a very pleasant nose of dried spices and smoke, decent fruit levels and a medium long soft finish. No rush here, though no real prospect of improvement with more time.

Unless I know the taster I take all CT pronouncements on aging/ageability with a grain of salt so large it resembles a mountain.

Agree - I also look for tasters I know or whose notes on other wines have reflected my findings, when trying to predict what a wine will be like.
