1990 Ch.Bourgneuf - the Pomerols are not always the longest lived of Bordeaux given that they are composed of around 90% merlot and 10% cab franc. On the other hand, they tend to offer pleasurable drinking earlier than the left bank wines that are typically cab sauv as the major component.
I have been doing a cellar review to find wines that may be in need of near term drinking and this turned up - my last bottle. I had hopes for it as it adjoins another of my favourites, Trotanoy, which ages well longer. Still showing good colour, and although it was a tad 'narrow' when opened, it did open up nicely with some air over the next hour before supper (roasted lamb with rosemary). Soft tannins, and some herbal elements plus very soft fruit and a lengthy and slowly fading finish. It had hung in there and was very pleasant. I also have the 1995, which is probably not the wine the 90s is/was and I'll make a point of sampling it in the near term.
