Today was the memorial luncheon for Thor Iverson. It was a raucous affair which would have pleased him. There were tons of wines, but a few really stood out. This was one, and with Thor’s great love of all things Trimbach, it seems an appropriate note to mark the occasion. I only got a small pour before Theresa’s mom commandeered the bottle for her table, but that small pour was etched in stone.
- 2001 Trimbach Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile - France, Alsace (12/21/2024)
To my taste there is no better dry Riesling than CFE when it is on form. This bottle was 100% on form, loaded with dry extract that conveyed immense depth, and balanced by its acidity to provide lift. It’s a marble statue in wine form.
