TN: 1997 Mount Langhi Ghiran Langi Shiraz - this producer in Victoria (the state down south opposite Tasmania - where Melbourne is located) is not likely a household name, but I was impressed enough by it at an Australian club tasting back in the day to cellar some of it. A deep red with an interesting nose of black olives and lapsang plus some white pepper in the nose, mellow and smooth now with some interesting dark fruit on palate. Long finish with soft tannins and as a cool climate wine it had only 13% alcohol. Alas my last bottle (and now at around $100 a bottle, it isn't on my 'to buy' list at this point).

I'm a fan, too. We actually got to visit there--the Grampians region where this winery is located is dramatic and beautiful. Off the beaten path for most wine tourists, but well worth a visit.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Although not in the news a much as the warmer areas, because Victoria is generally cooler than the more Northern areas, the pinot noirs, chards etc. tend to be less 'cooked' and more delicate. I have some Montalto PN that is very nice (Mornington Peninsula) and lovely whites are made in the Margaret River area to the West of Victoria - I still have some excellent Voyager Estate Chardonnay (2014) - remind me to open one for you!

Tasmania has been going more to whites and pinots a well but they are hard to find here.
