WTN: Bubbles Focus - Gaston Chiquet

  • NV Gaston Chiquet Champagne Premier Cru Tradition Brut - France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru (12/14/2024)
Seven years post disgorgement this is drinking very well, with toasty, nutty notes, as well as something I can only describe as a chocolate aroma. Very interesting. Lively and bright, the acids are front and center. No worries about having let this sit so long. No rush really.

I have to admit I thought Chiquet was one of the more or less interchangeable houses that K&L Wines tends to push as an affordable Champagne, and nothing more. I should have looked deeper, anything from Skurnik is worth at least a one-time flyer. Will pick up a bottle of the Tradition for US$45 next time I get a chance. Thanks!

Sure thing!

FWIW, Chiquet Carte Verte (now known as Tradition) was our house Champagne for years. Later it was Aubry. These days it’s Mousse Fils, all three being Theise discoveries and Skurnik imports.

Yes, Aubry has been one of my favorites, especially the rosé. Great balance of fruit and bread.

Vintage dependent of course, but the Chiquet Special Club is usually very good (or was, last I think I had was 2008)

Yes, though I despise Special Club bottles!
