Beef bulgogi, soba with mushrooms (maitake, shiitake, seafood aka enoki), Shanghai bok choy
2011 Pavelot Guettes Savigny-les-Beaune 1er
Surprisingly sweet red fruit, good acids, a little forest floor. There is a little green pine needle edge, but not enough to be distracting. Moderate finish. B/B+
Pizza (pepperoni, white with mushroom), salad
2023 Tiberio Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo
Lighter colored than the 2022, but no less delicious. Raspberries and sour cherry, an oystershell/saline note, long chalky finish. This is serious rose! B++
With a big variety of leftovers
2021 Baudry “Le Clos Guillot” Chinon
A little closed in and tannic, but great elements underneath. Black currants and plums, a little spicy edge (chipotle pepper), coffee and earth. Firm tannins but not gritty, moderate acids, rich fruit. This is way early but I enjoy with the meatier leftovers. B/B+ for now, plenty of room for improvement,
2022 Domaine Martin Sauvignon (Val de Loire)
Oops. Was filling out an online order and saw this at a retailer who sells the (nice) Yves/Pierre Martin Sancerres, assumed (oops!) that this was their SB from outside area. Hey, it was cheap. But this is Domaine Martin , and located in St Fiacre (Muscadet area) not Chavignol (and a different importer). Looks like no relation. Oh, the wine. Your standard overcropped SB, dilute gooseberry juice with a short finish. 1 more bottle, I’ll hold in case there is a zombie apocalypse, if David B becomes undead I can spray this as Bueker repellent. C/C+
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
