Wine Focus December 2024 - Bubbles & Bordeaux

by David M. Bueker » Sun Dec 01, 2024 2:12 pm

Well it’s the last month of an eventful year. With both winter and the holidays it seemed to make sense to double up on our focus for December. Sparkling wines are a natural for holiday celebration no matter the size of the group. Bordeaux, with its depth and structure, is a natural for cold weather foods - braises and stews in particular. And there’s nothing wrong with having a bottle of each with dinner!

Let’s celebrate two iconic types of wine this month.

Just for the record, if anyone is willing to try and report on a bubble Cremant de Bordeaux, they will earn the people's ovation and fame forever. Or not.

If it's the Calvet, they will earn the Wine Martyr designation.

I have had a 2016 Ch. Cantelmerle, 2016 Graffelerie and 2016 Le Plus de Fleur de Board recently and the Cantelmerele was most enjoyable now and ready. The Board was black and dense but with a huge future.
