- 2005 Domaine Truchot-Martin Morey St. Denis Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis (11/16/2024)
The stash of Truchot is dwindling. No point dwelling on it. The last bottle I opened was a solo affair, so I was pleased to have an opportunity to open this one for a small group.
Curiosity got the better of me, so I opened the bottle about two hours before dinner. Glad I did that, as the wine was grumpy and downright odd at first pour. There was a distinct aroma of wood smoke and bacon. Who put the Cote Rotie in my Truchot? Interestingly it did not translate to the palate, which was all beautiful, pure red fruit. Later the uncharacteristic aromas receded, allowing the red fruit to emerge alongside earthy, woodsy elements. Through it all the palate remained pure and elegant. Some of the earthy notes emerged on the palate as time went on. Not much in the way of structure left, so probably time to think about any remaining bottles. The wine is in a beautiful place now.

Sounds heavenly, I can taste it from here. (MSD are my favorite burgundies. First one I ever tasted created a bond that has not been broken.)
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Wow, Truchot sightings are getting few and far between. Sounds lovely, and sure your group appreciated!

Oh, it was very much appreciated! Not much I can add to David's note - just a beautiful wine that had such an airy and delicate presence on the palate.

Perhaps the Cote-Rotie-oid aromas were due to a (positive) touch of brett? It sounds like a delightful wine.

Yes - brett is not unusual in Truchot.
