No wine Monday, pizza before a speech at a church in Ossining. Then Tuesday pork bulgogi, rice with furikake, Shanghai bok choy, and the 2022 Louis Claude Desvignes “Ch.Gaillard” Morgon. Firm tannins, deep fruit (black cherry, black plum), smoke, violets, and espresso. Long vibrant finish. Very tasty, but I’m going to tuck away for a few years to let tannins soften a bit. B+/A-
Wednesday grilled tuna steaks, green puttanesca pasta, grilled artichokes, and salad. Wine was the 2021 La Magia Rosso di Montalcino. I remembered the 2000 La Magia Brunello as being a pleasant inexpensive BdM long ago, thought this might be good. Oops. Surprisingly tannic for a Rosso, but the tannins are nothing compared to the alcohol. Don’t light a match. I check label- 15% abv Sangiovese! Hot hot hot. Cherry cough syrup. Not my cuppa. C/C+
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
