- 2021 Black Sheep Finds Pinot Noir The Joy Fantastic - USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills (11/12/2024)
Served as part of a blind tasting, this had only been open for maybe an hour before it was served. My first impressions were Pinot or maybe even Trousseau. Quite light in color, the aromatics were initially a little red fruit and even an herbal note. Overall it was pleasant but not striking. Fast forward to later in the evening, perhaps three hours after the bottle was opened, and the aromatics had shifted and significantly expanded. Red fruits, flowers, cinnamon spice, and still a small herbal accent all danced together, and the mid-palate of the wine filled out even more, conveying a depth that matched the enthralling aromatics.
Given the change over the three hours I would highly recommend decanting if drinking this soon.
