CTN: Cigare Volant, the coffee

by Jenise » Tue Nov 12, 2024 5:03 pm

Just took delivery from my favorite coffee roaster, Gayla Moore in Ventura, California. I've been buying from her on and off for over 20 years. I am especially partial to Ethiopian beans but buy several others, like the Burundi Womens Collective and New Guinea Peaberry plus anything new she recommends. The freshness is fantastic: beans are roasted to order on Wednesday and shipped on Thursday. In addition to origin-specific beans she also has a small line of blends designed by local winemakers and this round I decided to give one by Randall Graham, named after his most famous bottling, a go.

Having my first cup of it right now: no idea what beans are in this, but it's more earthy than winey or fruity. Closer to Peruvian than Ethiopian, with dark chocolate and just a little blackberry. Very likeable, but won't replace any of my favorites.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I don't know about that, David; but we haven't been drinking much wine so why not!

Interesting that he would do a coffee blend. Doesn't really sound up my alley either.

I used to be able to get all sorts of coffee at my local Murchie's - a specialist merchant that brought them in from all over the world. The selection has dwindled a bit - no Ethiopian Yirgacheffe any more and missing quite a few of the other ones I liked 20 years ago. Fortunately we have a local vendor called Moja that roasts their own in small lots. You might find something you like - they are 10 min. away from our place - see https://www.mojacoffee.com/

The Moja selection looks nice, Bill. I see they have an Ethiopian and also a Guatemalan--my 2nd favorite single origin bean. Also a Nicaraguan--my brother's favorite, but I rarely see it.
