Wine Focus - November 2024: Wines to be thankful for

by David M. Bueker » Sun Nov 03, 2024 8:41 pm

We’re right between Canadian and American Thanksgiving, so there’s no better time to consider and drink wines for which we are thankful. Hopefully that’s not Beaujolais Nouveau (though I suspect Georges DuBoeuf was very thankful for it), but if it is we won’t judge…maybe.

So what wines are you thankful for? Something that awakened your love of wine? Something that you have shared with a loved one? Something you just love?

It’s a bit of a wild card focus, but hopefully folks can get into the spirit.

I always have fond memories of Monte Real. When studying at the London Hotel School, I was a student member of the Guild of Smmmeliers and one of the first wines I tasted was the Real Reserva.
Still on the lookout after all these years :D When in London, I can easily find half bottles.

I’m always thankful to find good half bottles. Snagged some 375s of Lopez de Heredia Tondonia Reserva last year.

I think this is a great theme. Will be fun to pause while going into the cellar and give just that extra bit of thought to what to pull. We're not drinking much at home now but tomorrow is election night. I will have a Comtes Taittinger ready if I have something to be thankful for; and I have no idea what I'll do if drowning my sorrows is called for instead.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

I hope you like the theme. You came up with it!
