2000 Orlando Abrigo Barbaresco Vigna Rongalio - my last bottle and the tannins have abated leaving a soft entry and still good fruit levels, and a long supple finish. It is much better to open a last bottle and think that you left it alone just long enough than too long if you find it a faded replica of itself. I've had very goodluck on long term aging in my cellar. I usually buy in 3, 6 or 12 bottle lots so I can track a given wine and try and hit it at what I perceive to be a peak of development. This one worked out very well - I probably bought it c. 20 years ago.

A very wise strategy, Bill. I think probably 4 bottles is the minimum for such an approach. Back in my exploratory days I was prone to buy single bottles, but as my tastes have ossified I buy more in 3-6 bottle lots (though in truth I'm cutting back my vin de garde purchases to next to none). That producer is unknown to me, though. Thanks for the note.

2000 Piedmont, the 100 pt Vintage! :)
I didn't buy much, have consumed most, never going to have the longevity of say 1989 or 1996 (or even '99 and '01). But some fun rather forward Nebbiolos.
I too have never heard of Abrigo, but sounds nice, and that you timed it perfectly.

Yes, 2000 was a good vintage, but all I have left are some Cantine Giacomo Ascheri Barolo Sorano, and some Pio Cesare Barolo Ornato, both very good!
