I cannot claim to have a comprehensive view on 2022 Chablis, but these are the bottles I’ve opened in the past few weeks.
Moreau-Naudet Vaillons
Nice wine with good plump juicy body, easy to drink. Maybe not the cut of my ideal Chablis, but there is depth, textural interest and structure, so maybe it just needs time. And, these are warm vintages afterall. Overall, a pleasing drink, if not the cut of my ideal Chablis.
Gilbert Picq Chablis VV
Again, here we have a wall of round plump easy basic Chablis fruit, but which is also slightly crisp, and therefore perfect restaurant drinking with various seafood dishes. Followed by a horrendously oaked 2022 negociant Chablis, which made this look divine in comparison. But I can’t remember that name…
Samuel Billaud Montmains
This is great. Lots of body and layers but herbal and tangy and overall has the linear drive I seek in Chablis. Lovely balanced wine that has the material, but is elegant, mineral, and lively. Bravo.
Domaine de l’enclos Vaudésir
A very different interpretation. Pungent ripe lemon golden fruit, but the structure is crisp and flinty, you could call it elegant, but it’s also a bit funky and not the most cohesive at the moment. Maybe it needs time for the grand cru breed to appear. But I suspect it’s just not my style.
