More nickerspurt from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Over a month ago, I saw some very favorable compliments on the wines of a new producer in Lompoc, Amevive. The principal behind Amevive is Alice Anderson, though I believe she has a partner she works with, who has a pretty low profile. Alice took over the lease on the Ibarra-Young vnyd in the SantaYnezVlly. This was a vnyd planted in 1971 mostly to Rhone varieties at the behest of BobLindquist. I believe it was the first planting of Marsanne in Calif. Bob was the one who drove Marsanne to success in Calif. When Bob's Marsannes were first released, I was pretty underwhelmed by them. But as Bob began to expose me to more aged examples of his Marsanne, I became a believer. As they age, they turn into wonderful complex whites w/ lots of white Rhone character.
Alice farms Ibarra-Young according to regenerative farming. Because of the Lindquist connection, I decided to order a mixed case of the Amevive wines. In the meantime, they also showed up on the shelves here in NM thru a tiny distributor, Solera. About half of her wines come from Ibarra-Young, the rest purchased grapes in the SantaYnezVlly. She still continues to sell to BobLindquist at Lindquist Family Wines.
I was very impressed by Alice's white Rhones. They all showed loads of very perfumed/aromatic/classic fruit.
They show a great deal of varietal purity. Any oak was not at all obvious. They have great spiciness & balance. I have no reason to believe they won't evolve into classic old Rhones like those of BobLindquist's. A real discovery for me. I'll be back for more. Reports on the reds to follow, which were equally impressive.
