Bob and I were heading up to Bill's the next day for a tasting of Island Wines, so I popped this on Wednesday night, one of four I own and have never opened any of, for 'practice'.
2018 Azienda Agricola Gianfranco Daino Suber Sicilia Red Blend
Interesting, intriguing nose that's floral and fruit in a unique way but does not adequately prepare one for the letdown of playful, unserious red fruit on the palate that reminds me of Hawaiian Punch. Doesn't smell or taste like any other red wine I can remember but perhaps that's because it's 50% Nero D'avola, a grape I've never cared for and tend to avoid. In this case it's probably the other 50% (part nero mascalese and part something else I can't remember) that in fact makes it just agreeable enough that I don't hate it. Better suited to hamburgers than the tomato/truffle risotto I served it with.
