WTN: Colter'sCreek Fondo Syrah Idaho '18....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Sep 05, 2024 11:31 am

Linda brought this Syrah to our Pig+Fig tasting last night to share:
1. Colter'sCreekWnry Fondo Syrah Estate/Lewis-ClarkVlly/Idaho (14%; www.ColtersCreek.com) Juliaetta/ID 2018: Dark color; very spicy/Syrah/very Rhonish some earthy/dusty strong blackberry/peppery some toasty/oak complex beautiful very Rhonish nose; rather tart/tangy very strong Rhonish/smokey/peppery strong blackberry/Syrah/ver spicy light toasty/oak beautiful flavor w/ light tangy tannins; very long/lingering very spicy/Rhonish finish that tracks flavor; reminds some of WA Syrah but more peppery & more structured; a beautiful Rhonish expression of Syrah.

1. This is a wine Linda & Ralph picked up on their visit to Idaho some yrs ago. Not a wnry I'd heard of before, but then I'm not very familiar w/ Idaho wines. Alas, they are no longer in business. In late July of this yr, I wildfire swept thru the property. The vnyds survived, but the wnry was destroyed along w/ their inventory. So they decided to pull the plug. I'd be interested to find out where the grapes in this vnyd wind up.

Though I too am unfamiliar with the wines, I recall reading about the fire. Very sad situation. I have had a few other wines from Idaho though, and the syrahs have been particularly memorable. The spice element in particular.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
