Automatic Wine Preserver??

by TomHill » Tue Aug 27, 2024 6:54 pm

Anybody know anything about this Familia Morgan automatic wine preservation system??? Looks to me a lot like the Vacu-Vin, but electric powered, not a hand pump. Therefore… useless… but an electric-powered useless.

Tom, that link takes me to a dialog box page at Facebook that says I'm leaving Facebook and asking whether I want to follow the link. The link goes to the Family Morgan main website page. I can't find any sign of their automatic wine preserver either there or via Google. Can you provide a direct (non-Facebook) link to the description of the preservation system?

Personally I'm sticking with my nitrogen preservation system.

This Facebook page kept popping up for Familia Morgan that urged you to enter their drawing for a free Wine Preservation System. It is no longer appearing on my Facebook feed. Strange. Friggin' Facebook.
It is actually available from Wine Enthusiast:

I don't think it's the wine world's next big thing, though. Appears to be the same principal of the VacuVin, but you don't have to pump it by hand.
VacuVin is totally useless. I'm certain this is also.

The WIne Enthusiast link works. Thanks.

Agreed about VacuVin. If you go up to their master page on preservation systems you will see that they sell several nitrogen and argon dispensing systems. Those are excellent. The nitrogen preservation systems on that page use small, non-standard, disposable nitrogen canisters. Wine Enthusiast also has a line of commercial nitrogen dispensers intended for restaurants, wine shops, and tasting rooms. Those have connections compatible with commercial nitrogen canisters used in the welding trade, etc. These are (1) less expensive than the custom bottles in WE's consumer line and (2) exchangeable vs. disposable.

What I did is to go to the Wine Enthusiast's replacement parts page. I ordered a cable/tube with valve and pressure regulator that screws into the standard nitrogen canisters at one end and into their stopper/dispensers at the other end. I then went to the local welding supplies place and bought a small standard nitrogen canister. When the canister goes empty I can simply go to the welding store and exchange it for a full one. Much cheaper in the long run than the disposable canisters. My system doesn't have elegant cabinetry but it gets the job done.

Paul, just curious what you mean by a "small standard" nitrogen cylinder. In lab, we use two sizes: 125 cu ft (9" diameter, 50" high) and lecture bottles (3" x 18"), which don't use the same size regulator. Other gases, such as ammonia, we'll get in 20 cu ft cylinders (5.25" x 18") that do use a "standard" size regulator. Any of those seem to resemble what you get?

Sorry to take so long to reply to your question. I kept getting distracted.

I can't find my ruler or tape measure, but the dimensions sound like your lecture bottle. It's the type of small nitrogen cylinder available for sale/exchange/refill at welding supply shops.
