WTN: A Ramato & A Veneto Red....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Aug 20, 2024 1:38 pm

Had these two over the weekend:
1. Pax Trousseau Gris Fanucchi-WoodRd Vnyd/RRV (12.5%) Pax Mahle Wines/Sebastopol 2022: Light garnet/rose color; pleasant floral/Trousseau/watermelon/cranberry bit spicy fairly pleasant nose; fairly tart/tangy rather watermelon/cranberry some earthy/Trousseau lightly floral/ PG/ramato-like flavor w/ slight brisk tannins; very long finish that follows flavor; a pleasant enough Ramato but not very thrilling & a bit on the dull side. $33.00

2. Cesari Justo IGT: Veneto Rosso Appassimento (13.5%; 60% Corvino/40% Merlot; skin-contact for 15 days; 20 days lightly dried; www.CesariVerona.It; Opici/GlenRock/NJ) Gerardo Cesari/Fumane/Veneto 2019: Med.dark color; rather grapey/Valpolicella-like some earthy/dusty lightly floral/violets somewhat rustic/earthy some pleasant nose;slightly tart rather grapey/earthy/rustic bit dusty/OV rather raspy/grapey/coarse flavor w/ light grippy tannins; med.long coarse/grapey finish that tracks flavor; a pretty dull/coarse/grapey red that resembles a denser Valpolicella; not a very interesting red & lacks any bright/high-toned character; pretty dull stuff. $15.00 (KK)

More gellerblot from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I was pretty disappointed in the Pax Trousseau Gris. Generally his wines are at least interesting. I thought this was fairly dull Ramato and not particularly distinctive. I've had plenty of PinotGris Ramatos that were more interesting.
