1985 Mount Langi Ghiran Shiraz Langi

Presently doing a cellar sweeper to pick up bottles that are likely well past their prime, and while a few are, many have continued to drink pretty well, which I attribute largely to a cool cellar (13C, which is about 55 F).

Came across this one and figured it would likely have faded out by now, but to my surprise it still had some stuffing. Still fairly dark in colour although clearly bricking at the edges, and the nose was ripe black fruit with anise and very soft tannins. A pleasant surprise.

I suspect that I like it now better than I would have if I had opened it when it was only a few years old.

Back when I bought a lot of Aussie wines, Mt. Langhi Ghiran was one of my favorite producers, and I owned quite a few 98s. There are also quite a few other good producers in that same Pyrenees region whose wines never make it over here. Glad this one lasted!
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
