TN: Two Whites....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Aug 18, 2024 6:26 pm

Had these two over the weekend w/ Susan:
1. Dom.Carrel Eugene et Fils Jongieux AC: Vin de Savoie (11.5%; Jacquere grape; VintageImprts/Denver) Dom.Carrel & Senger/Jongieux 2022: Light gold color; lovelyvery fragrant floral/alpine white flowers/edelweis light chalky/mineral slight appley somewhat lightweight nose; rather tart/tangy bstrong floral/perfumed talc/alpine white flowers light chalky/mineral bit appley/apple blossom brisk/refreshing lovely flavor; very long/lingering rather floral/alpine white flowers/edelweis finish that mimics flavor; an absolutely lovely expression of a Savoie Jongieux at a stupid/silly price. $13.00 (KK)

2. Fabelhaft Riesling Mosel Q (10.5%; Natural wine; 749 002 22; www.Fio.Wine; SkurnikWines/NY) FioWine/Piesport 2021: Pale yellow color; light floral/mango/R/Mosel/stony slight chalky/flinty slight earthy very bland/vapid nose; soft bit off-dry (0.4%-0.6% r.s.) light floral/Mosel/stony slight metallic/funky/earthy very vapid/dull/bland flavor; short bit floral/R quite bland/vapid slight funky finish; speaks of R & Mosel in only a whisper; has a slight natty funk to it; a very vapid/bland/dull expression of R that I've ever had. $22.00 (SFW&S)

More widdlewart from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. I was pretty much blown away by the Jongieux for that price. Not the best Jongieux I've had but a brisk/refreshing Jacquere that speaks of alpine white flowers. Incredible well-priced.
The Fabelhaft is a natural wine. The Germans have bee a little slow on getting into the natural wine movement, so I was interesting in seeing what they could do. Based on this one data point, not so much. It was not strongly natty but had a bit of funk to it. But the real problem was that it is one of the most vapid/bland R that I can ever recall. Speaks little of R or of the Mosel.
