1994 Umani Ronchi Pelago IGT -I started buying this in the first released vintage, the 1994. I thought it was a good time to check back on it to see how it is doing at the age of 30.

Still fairly dark though lightening at the edges (but not browning) this blend of cabernet, montepulciano and merlot has a very nice nose of wood (cedar) fruit (mostly dark cherry) and herbs (mostly thyme and hints of tarragon). It is still in excellent shape with excellent fruit levels and a lengthy crisp finish. I was actually a bt surprised at how well it had lasted.

At first I thought it said 'Umami'.

Don't tell us this is your first bottle of a case.

No, I have sampled them from time to time. I bought the first four vintages and have sampled them occasionally over the years - I only have just over a case in total left now. Figured I'd best try one out and was pleased that it still showed well. I intend to continue with them in the near term now (and no, that doesn't mean I'll put one in blind to next week's lunch tasting
