I am a Mourvèdre fanatic, and even at this early stage this wine is thrilling to me. It has a presence on the palate - a depth that is more than just the sappy (reminds me a little of Evangelho) fruit. It's grounded in the earth it comes from, and intensely savory on the finish, which is something I personally treasure in red wines. It takes effort to get to the structure, but it's there, just buried under the layers of flavors.

Amazing now, this has the legs and balance to go on for a very long time. It would be interesting to compare it with some top Bandol wines in another 10-15 years.

I know the ode to Lulu rose, is Lucien also a Tempier reference?

Yes. It's their interpretation of Bandol Rouge.

Lulu and Lucien were Grandma and Grandpa Peyraud, the folks that brought Domaine Tempier to the world, and Mourvedre to the lips of anyone foolhardy enough to attempt to pronounce it. They were special folks, and very fond memories.
