WTN: Coufran and Ollie

Back from Portugal and Catalonia (working on sketchy notes, but most wines likely not available in US)

Saturday night- oysters, lemon sole (fluke), corn, caprese, salad
2022 Goodfellow Berserkers Cuvee Temperance Hill Chardonnay
Decanted to clear some matchstick. Vibrant acids. Pear and lemon, mineral. No hurry. B+

Sunday (Bastille Day) oysters, Tbone, chanterelles, potatoes with radish leaf pesto, caprese, salad
2012 Pepiere (Marc Ollivier) Clos des Briords Muscadet
Seashells and beach stones, bright citrus fruit, snappy and long. B+/A-

1988 Ch. Coufran (Haut Medoc)
If this was blind I’d have never guessed 1988 or northern Medoc. Soft, low tannin and acid, black plum fruit with a little tobacco leaf and floral notes. More like a mature RB satellite Really could have used something with more grip for the steak, but it’s a pleasant fully mature wine. B/B-

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C drinkable. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.

Love the title.

And I appreciate the note on the Goodfellow. Thanks.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
