WTN 2003 Terra Valentine Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Drunk with friends at an awesome concert last night. Props to Slim's Nightclub for allowing corkage! (I know I'm a geek to bring wine to a concert  )

Purchased "blind" without tasting as an impulse buy.

Definitely on the riper, jammy side of Napa Cabs. Plenty of blackberry and cassis fruit. Although the usual suspects claim this is an early drinker, there are tooth-coating tannins galore. More balanced than some Napa Fruit Bombs, with a very nice, long savory finish. A very nice version of the style-especially at the price ($30). Solid ***, even if it's not really my preferred style, it's got great QPR and is nicer and more balanced than some Napa Cabs at twice the price.

Obscure Canadian instrumentalists Do Make Say Think. Eight member band on stage-two drummers, two guitarists, a bass player, a violinist, a trumpeter, and a sax player. They do 10+ minute long "postrock" pieces. Lot's of changes in dynamics, tempo, instrumentation, with repetition but plenty of quirky little motets. Very trance-inducing music.

Godspeed You Black Emperor, Mogwai are other "examples" of Postrock. Wikipedia has a great article.

Not that anyone is really interested in my strange musical tastes :)

(geek hat off!)
