We had these two Jaffurs at our Pig+Fig tasting last night:
1. Jaffurs Syrah LarnerVnyd/SantaBarbaraCnty (15.5%) 2008: Very dark color w/ little bricking; classic Jaffurs toasty/Fr.oak strong blackberry/Syrah/spicy bit peppery rather complex nose w/ loads of SBC Syrah fruit; fairly tart/tangy very strong SBC Syrah/blackberry/boysenberry/spicy some c-c/peppery classic Jaffurs Syrah flavor w/ modest chewey tannins; very long/lingering finish that tracks flavor; still quite youthful & no signs of age; a classic evolving Jaffurs Syrah.

2. Jaffurs Syrah SantaBarbaraCnty (14.8%) 2004: Very dark color w/ slight bricking; strong Jaffurs/toasty/oak modest SBC/Syrah/spicy/blackberry light c-c/peppery rather simpler still very much alive complex nose; quite tart bit dried out/metallic some SBC Syrah/blackberry/peppery strong toasty/oak slightly tired flavor w/ light astringent tannins; very long slightly tired finish that tracked flavor; a beautiful classic Jaffurs Syrah on the nose but starting to fade on the palate.

More pippleclack from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Craig Jaffurs Syrahs age incredibly well. I was expecting the '04, at 20 yrs old, would be in pretty bad shape. It was not at all. Certainly on the nose, though showing signs on the palate. But still a very enjoyable Syrah.
