- 2020 Dirler-Cade Riesling Kessler - France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru (6/24/2024)
Label has "Element Feu" similar to the Element Air, Eau and Terre bottlings from other grapes/vineyards in the Dirler stable.
There was a rush of crisp fruit when I popped the cork - apple, white peach. Not quite so vivid in the glass, but largely because a salty/seaside minerality blew up in the glass. On the palate it was dry and stuffed with the saltiness the aromatics promised. The fruit came out more over time, and aided the overall balance. Feels like this needs time to relax a bit, but the right pieces are there for a medium-term evolution. This isn't some sweet wine hiding in the fluted bottle. It's a dry Alsatian Riesling (OK, the winery tech sheet says 4 g/l of RS, but it tastes dry) more in the style of 20+ years ago, even if it's larger-scaled due to the effects of climate change.
