Stacey brought these two older SantaBarbara Syrahs from her Dad's cellar last week at our Pig+Fig tasting:
1. Kenneth-Crawford Syrah/Lafond vineyard, Santa Rita Hills (15.3%) 2004: Dark color w/ some browning; young bit Rhonish classic SBC Syrah/spicy some dusty/OV modest toasty/oak slight peppery fairly complex nose; fairly tart very spicy/SBC Syrah slight Rhonish/roasted fairy rich bit structured fairly complex flavor w/ light brisk/tangy tannins; very long rather youthful classic SBC Syrah/spicy some toasty/oak finish that follows flavor; a pretty classic peppery/very spicy SBC Syrah slight Rhonish fairly mature wine that's probably not going to get any better; remarkably youthful for 20 yrs and no signs of drying out/tired character; a beautiful fully mature SBC Syrah.

1. Both of these wines were beautiful classic SBC Syrah fully mature and about as perfect as you can find. I expected the '04 to show a bit of its age but it was amazing youthful for 20 yrs. A beautiful pair as good as it gets from SBC.
