TN: 2015 Soumah Chardonnay

2015 Soumah Chardonnay - probably not exactly a household word, this Yarra Valley winery aims to make wines from varietals from the north of Italy and southeast of France, as being most suitable for their climate. Clear bright gold colour with bright edges, a nose with significant oak, but I believe it is French oak and that they only use 20% new oak each year and the wine is barrel fermented with only wild yeast. A balanced wine with some citrus in the nose and some fresh baked bread, and on palate, a complex citrus melange with a clean long finish An excellent wine with no weak spots - unusual for Aussie Chard - which is why I bought it around 7 years ago. Possibly hard to find but worth the effort - I doubt you'd get many guesses of Australia in a blind tasting, nor of California for that matter.

Interesting. And you know what, this is the first tasting note I can remember ever seeing from you on a chardonnay from your own cellar. I do not have the impression that it's a grape you love or at least buy above the lower-tiered summer-sipper level.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

At the moment I am down to only 125 bottles of chardonnay from vintages over the last 15 years and from half a dozen countries. I tend not to use them for tastings unless the theme is suitable, I just drink and enjoy them. But you never know, you might get to taste one of them sooner than you think.....
