WTN: When Marge met Mary

Opened these two last night:

2023 Margerum Sauvignon Blanc Sybarite Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara
What in the hell happened to my Sybarites? These used to be fat and unctious and golden, rich with the kind of flavors you get from some skin contact and new oak. Doug Margerum didn't name it 'sybarite' for nothing! But this vintage is pale, almost clear, probably 100% stainless, with virtually no Sauvignon Blanc typicity. In fact there's something a little floral, a little muscat-ty. Oh woe is me. So we tossed the rest of our glasses into the rocks and I opened this wine that I'd picked up earlier in the day.

2023 Luc Poullain Touraine Mary Taylor Sauvignon Blanc
On the nose and palate, Granny Smith apple, key lime, and tomato leaf. Clean, dry and intense all at once. I haven't previously been that keen about Touraine SBs but we absolutely loved this. Perfect for sipping alone or with food. Another win for Mary Taylor.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
